Class A vs Class C Motorhomes: How to Choose?
Class A and Class C motorhomes have a lot in common. Both feature integrated sleeping accommodations, a bathroom, a kitchen area, and more. They are both driveable (not towable) and extremely popular options for families, couples, and singles. However, despite all of these similarities, there are still some major differences between Class A and Class C motorhomes.
Our team at Sun & Fun RVs has put together this list of key factors to consider when deciding which style is right for you. Read on, and if you have any questions, come down to our dealership in Tiffin, Iowa, or give us a call and we will be happy to assist you in finding the perfect motorhome.
Class A and Class C: Which is Which?
If it looks like it could have had another life as transportation for a rock band, it’s a Class A. Expect a broad flat front and a panoramic windshield. While there used to be shorter, smaller Class A rigs, today’s Class A RVs tend to be the size of a touring bus.
In contrast, Class C motorhomes are built on a truck chassis. They look like two elements combined: a traditional truck- or van-like front, and a wider cabin on the back. Sometimes there’s an overhang over the driver’s cockpit which holds a bed or storage space.
Class A vs Class C: Sizing
Today’s biggest RVs tend to be Class A motorhomes. These are the preferred style for large groups or families and models can be found that are as much as 45 feet long! Class C motorhomes usually range between 25 and 30 feet, though they still offer ample room for multiple campers.
Class A vs Class C: How They Drive
A big Class A RV feels like driving a school bus or truck, so if you are unfamiliar with how these types of vehicles handle, there can be a learning curve. Class C motorhomes handle more like commuter vehicles, making them easier to learn to operate, but their width and size still make them challenging at first.
Class A vs Class C: Pricing
Generally, you’ll find that Class C campers are less expensive upfront and cost less in upkeep and fuel. Class A motorhomes can have steep price tags, but there are models priced in the entry-level range.
Class A vs Class C: Features
Class A motorhomes generally are more luxurious, with extra features such as exterior kitchens, washer and dryer units, and fireplaces. These features are just some of the reasons Class A motorhomes are very popular among full-time RVers.
Class C motorhomes can still be pretty deluxe with quality features such as cozy furniture and large televisions.
