Finding an RV Repair Shop and Scheduling Tasks

RV owners can find some options by searching for “RV repair and service near me.” Read reviews from other customers or ask other RV owners about the mechanics they use. Also call different shops to ask questions and get price quotes. Your RV owner’s manual will have the recommendations of maintenance tasks to do. Ensure you review this checklist and any other concerns you have with your mechanic. 

Quarterly Tasks

1. For motorhomes, check the fluid levels and change the oil.

2. For all RVs, clean and adjust batteries, particularly check for corrosion.

3. Check the water lines and plumbing systems.

Every Six Months

1. Check your brakes, and replace if necessary.

2. Check your wiring and electrical systems. Electrical connections can become loose, corroded, or just dirty.

3. With an A/C plug tester, check all the outlets.

4. Clean your fresh water tank, and flush the water heater.

5. Check, clean, and reseal all seams on the roof and exterior walls.

6. Clean and treat all rubber seals, and lubricate the awning mechanisms.

7. Check the propane lines and hardware.

8. Clean the refrigerator and A/C covers.

9. Check the torque on all nuts and bolts on the entire RV, plus the hitch.

Yearly

1. Clean and lubricate the hitch.

2. Check and clean the wheel bearings.

3. Check the lights, including the turn signals, brake, and marker lights.

RV Tires

Check your tires before each trip, and replace them if needed. Ensure there are no cracks, there is enough tread on them, and check your tire pressure. 

If something is not working correctly, it’s best to stop, identify the problem, and fix it before continuing on. Walk around your RV, look at both internal and external parts.
